Speaker biography:
Jyrki Räisänen is professor of physics and head of the Accelerator Laboratory and the Division of Materials Physics, and the deputy director of the Department of Physics at Helsinki University. He received his Ph.D. in 1981 (Physics, Applications of Low Energy Accelerators) from University of Helsinki. He was a professor of experimental materials physics at Jyväskylä University, Finland before joining back at Helsinki University in 2003. He is currently member of the external counseling body of the Institute of Nuclear Research (ATOMKI) and the Wigner Research Centre for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is an associate editor of Physica Scripta and has about 260 publications in international peer reviewed journals and 7 chapters in international text- and handbook.
