ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ROMAN WRZALIK
Head of the Molecular Spectroscopy Laboratory
ROMAN WRZALIK studied physics at the University of Silesia in Katowice. In 1993 he gained his Ph.D. with a study on vibrational relaxation in liquid benzene. In 2005 he completed his habilitation at the University of Silesia. He developed a molecular spectroscopy laboratory in the Department of Biophysics and Molecular Physics. This laboratory has several spectrometers allow the study of electronic and vibrational molecular spectra (i.e. two infrared spectrometers, infrared microscope, Raman spectrometer, UV-Vis spectrometers, fluorescence spectrometer). He also takes care of the scanning probe microscopy laboratory equipped with a high-vacuum microscope AFM/STM and AFM microscope working at ambient conditions. His research is focused on the study of the structure and properties of liquid crystals, minerals, drugs and biological materials carried out using molecular spectroscopy and AFM.
