Prof. ANDRZEJ BURIAN is employed as a scientist and an academic teacher at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, A. Chelkowski Institute of Physics, University of Silesia. He is head of the Silesian Center for Education and Interdisciplinary Research, University of Silesia. He has got PhD in solid state physics and his scientific activation is focused on structural studies of disordered materials, such as amorphous semiconductors, oxide and metallic glasses, liquids, amorphous medicaments and compounds which can be potentially used in medicine, various carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, nanohorns, nanoonions, nanodiamonds) and metallic nanoparticles. He carried out studies of the atomic scale structure of these materials using X-ray and neutron diffraction methods, Extended X-ray absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) . He has many year experience in the use of electron, neutron, and X-ray diffraction techniques including modern radiation sources as synchrotron, reactor and pulsed neutrons. He is author and/or co-author of about 100 scientific publications.
